Portrait types
A favourite of many families is a pencil sketch of the baby asleep or their child playing a musical instrument. This can be achieved in a sitting of one hour or less and is not expensive.
Paintings in pastels or oils are best done from a live sitting but can be done from photographs. The size of the final piece, and its price, is agreed on commissioning.
Ancestral portraits
I approach ancestral or posthumous portraits with tact and empathy. I first need to collect details and background information on the subject by talking with family members. I need to work from the photographs you have of the subject, and I shall of course take the good care of these invaluable items which are often irreplaceable.
When painting the portrait of my grandmother, whom I had never met, I worked from discussions with my parents who talked of her style and colour of dressing.
Greetings Cards
Another popular commission is pen and ink drawings which can then be used on your own set of greetings cards for general or seasonal uses.
